Dedicated to the women who made Mahamaya Girls' College
The story of Mahamaya College concerned not only the history of women’s education in colonial and post-colonial Sri Lanka, but also the limited opportunities available for an English education for Kandyan women in the first half of the 20th century.
The book addresses the larger issues of women’s empowerment and education in the context of the Buddhist revival, and the economic and social changes resulting from colonial rule, and also survey the impact of educational reforms in the post-colonial era on women.
The book highlights the story of the school, its founders, teachers and students which Mahamayans and their teachers could both recognize and identify with.

Empowering Futures
The Colombo PPA has been sponsoring student of Mahamaya when they begin their A/Ls for the 2 years duration. Last year with the fund raising done by the committee and through some kind hearts of a special couple in the USA we managed to give 55 to deserving students. The children have to apply and after a day of face to face interviews with our committee members the deserving students are chosen and awarded a monthly scholarship.

The beauty of life is best experienced through the gift of sight
As the community welfare project for 2024 it was decided to provide lenses for patients who needed cataract surgery. As the fund raiser for this project we held a “used but almost new” Saree sale. We proudly announce that over 1000 sarees were received given by our beautiful Mayans and their friends to support this project. The sale was held in Kandy and was supported by our sisters there. Between the donations received and the funds from the saree sale we managed to give vouchers to 50+ patients to help with the purchasing of the lenses. Thank you to everyone who supported in giving the clarity of sight to these worn out eyes.
